Richard Cheesman

Managing Director

Richard has worked for many years in the development and financing of stadium projects. He was appointed Managing Director of Comperio Research when it was acquired by ISG in 2010, and, with his background in banking and stadium financing, ensures the research output is robust and can be relied on by capital providers.

He was educated at Cambridge University where he gained a degree in Mathematics and worked at Japanese bank Nomura before joining WestLB, the large German Bank. At WestLB Richard was involved in providing financing to several large transactions including management buy-outs and public-to-private take-overs.

Whilst at WestLB, Richard worked on the successful financing of Wembley Stadium and the creation of a successful, bankable financing package for the project. Richard’s role included analysing and testing the forecasts provided by Comperio Research and preparing and presenting the credit paper to the credit committee in Dusseldorf. The Comperio Research forecasts were the central element of this process given the importance of the premium seat and box/suite revenues to the overall business model. The financing was completed in September 2002.

In 2004 Richard left WestLB and became a founding partner at Clearbrook Capital, a London based private equity firm. He was involved in ten acquisitions for Clearbrook during his time there including the acquisition of Bastion (since renamed ISG) in 2006. Richard joined ISG full time in 2009.

Since the acquisition of Comperio Research, he has led the development of the business into what is now the recognised global leader in stadium research using some of the most sophisticated consumer product research techniques. He takes overall responsibility for the research projects undertaken by Comperio Research including recent projects for FC Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur, Atletico Madrid and several projects in the USA and Brazil.
